Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Public Safety Transport Officer 1 ensures the secure, safe, and timely transport of individuals in custody to courts, medical facilities, and other authorized locations. This role will report to the Lead Transport Officer.

Primary Tasks

  • Safely transports individuals, official documents, and materials between designated facilities, including detention centers, courts, treatment facilities, and medical providers; maintains accurate transport and activity logs.
  • Conducts searches and verifies the identity of individuals in custody; secures and documents prisoner’s personal property in accordance with policy.
  • Observes and monitors the conduct of persons in custody during transport or holding; enforces rules and maintains order, utilizing approved restraint or de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Escorts and secures individuals in custody within courtrooms, meeting areas, and other facilities; returns individuals to assigned holding areas or facilities following proceedings.
  • Assists bailiffs and judicial staff in maintaining order and security within the courtroom.
  • Prepares, reviews, and submits required reports and documentation, including transport logs, court minutes, booking information, and housing billing records.
  • Ensures the safety, security, and cleanliness of transport vehicles and holding areas; coordinates meals or basic care needs as required.
  • Perform CPR/first aid or obtaining medical assistance as needed for ill or injured prisoners.
  • Processes the release of individuals from jail custody.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to obtain CLEET certification within one year of employment
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be medically fit and able to perform all of the essential functions of a Transport Officer and pass a physical fitness test.
  • Basic Computer skills to enable report writing, composition or correspondence, Internet and email.
  • Ability to reason and react calmly and quickly in emergency and life-threatening situations.
  • Able to qualify yearly with department firearms
