Lighthorse Sergeant

Job Description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Sergeant serves as a first-line supervisor responsible for overseeing patrol operations and law enforcement activities within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma to ensure safety and security.

 

Primary Tasks

  • Supervise a departmental support program including training, motor pool, public relations, etc.
  • Enforce Tribal, State and Federal laws and patrol in assigned area(s); locate and
  • Make arrests, serve warrants, transport prisoners, prepare arrest cases and testify in court.
  • Investigate and make reports of motor vehicle collisions and criminal offenses.
  • Escort funeral processes, parades, officials, oversized vehicles, etc.
  • Attend department meetings, training courses, conferences, etc.
  • Inform supervisor concerning matters of significance in their area (s) of patrol.
  • Coordinate with other Police Departments and Tribal Security to ensure consistent and comprehensive services to the citizens of the Choctaw Nation.
  • Analyze unsafe traffic and road conditions such as obstructions, debris, icy bridges, high water, damaged pavement, inadequate or damaged traffic control devices and take appropriate action to correct them.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of the law enforcement academy
  • CLEET Certified
  • Ability to qualify yearly with department firearms
  • Basic computer skills in order to compose reports or correspondence
  • Ability to use law enforcement communication, law enforcement software and equipment
  • Must be able to perform and pass a Physical Fitness test
  • Have supervisory skills and training
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make logical decisions.
  • Two [2] years of prior experience as a patrol officer
