Full-Time | Schedule: 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday (Off Saturday & Sunday) | Pay: $33.51 Hourly

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Lead Probation Officer is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of probation officers, ensuring effective supervision of probationers, adherence to court mandates, and successful rehabilitation outcomes. This position combines leadership, case management, requiring a strong understanding of probationary practices, law enforcement collaboration, and personnel management. This role will report to the Director of the Department of Criminal Justice.

Primary Tasks

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of probation officers, providing guidance on complex cases and ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Provide on the job training to Probation Officers and implement continuous training, coaching, and professional development programs to enhance the performance of probation officers.
  • Oversee timecard management, conduct interviews for new applicants, and maintain accurate documentation related to subordinate personnel.
  • Manage a caseload of low- and high-risk offenders, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques and conducting risk assessments to determine criminogenic needs.
  • Review, approve, and prepare reports on offender activities, providing recommendations to the Choctaw Nation Sentencing Judges and District Attorney.
  • Make final decisions regarding probation violations, case modifications, and disciplinary actions, ensuring adherence to legal and organizational standards.
  • Participate in court hearings as required, offering expert recommendations and providing testimony related to probationers' progress and compliance.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, both physical and electronic, and conduct employment, field, and home visits to assess offender progress and ensure compliance with probation terms.
  • Coordinate with the Choctaw Nation Sentencing Judges, District Attorney, law enforcement, and external agencies to manage offenders arrested for Tribal offenses and provide integrated services that ensure public safety and effective case management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in corrections, sociology, social work, criminology, psychology or closely related field,
  • Intermediate CLEET Certification and ability to obtain Advanced CLEET Certification within 1 year
  • Completion of Tribal Probation Academy or equivalent academy
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, courts, and probation-related theories, principles, laws, case law, and operations
  • Able to qualify yearly with department firearms
  • Ability to make critical decisions
  • Proficient in operating a computer and using Microsoft Office products and Tribal Court Case Management System
  • Four [4] years of service as a Tribal Probation Officer or equivalent
