Agricultural Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): To operate and maintain heavy equipment and perform excavation, land management, and maintenance tasks to support infrastructure, grounds upkeep, and overall operational efficiency in a safe and effective manner.

Primary Tasks

  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance on a variety of Excavators, Dozers, Front-End Loaders, Packers, and tools necessary in the assistance of the job.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Operate tractor with front end loader to move dirt, brush management, trash and other material and to transplant trees, shrubs and hedges. Operate backhoe to dig ditches and holes.
  • Operate farm-type tractor to maintain land, fencing, roads, walks, and fairways, building and maintain roads and fire breaks.
  • Operate truck rated at greater than 10,000 pounds gross capacity to haul material in grounds maintenance.
  • Excavate a variety of properties (e.g., earth, asphalt, concrete, debris, soil trench lines) for the purpose of installing, repairing, improving, and maintaining water, sewer, storm-drain pipes, electrical conduit infrastructure, landscaped areas and fields in a safe and clean condition.
  • Maintain and repair multiple structures, utilizing various hand and power tools
  • Retrieve and enter work orders using computerized programs.
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, basic repair and maintenance.
  • Mechanically inclined and be able to learn various technical/mechanical requirements of the job
  • Knowledge of mowers, tractors, power tools, cutting torches
  • Medium physical work: exerting 30 to 50 pounds of force
  • Two (2) years of experience in equipment and building maintenance
  • Two (2) years’ experience operating equipment including: forklifts, back hoes, bulldozers, tractors, skid loaders, etc.
