Wildland Fire Prevention Specialist

Full-time| M-F, (8hr shifts) | PG13| Weekly earned wage access is an option for this position. * Open to associates currently in the department.
Job Purpose or Objective: Serves as the Wildland Fire Prevention Specialist responsible for developing and implementing wildfire prevention, mitigation, and public education programs throughout the Choctaw Nation service area. Conducts wildfire risk assessments, coordinates prevention activities, supports fuels reduction initiatives, and participates in wildland fire operations.
Primary Tasks
- Develop, implement, and maintain annual wildland fire prevention plans, goals, and strategies designed to reduce wildfire risk throughout the Choctaw Nation service area.
- Conduct wildfire hazard, risk, and vulnerability assessments; analyze wildfire occurrence data, fire weather, and trends to identify prevention priorities and mitigation opportunities.
- Coordinate wildfire prevention and mitigation activities with Tribal, Federal, State, and local agencies, landowners, and community stakeholders to support collaborative fire management efforts.
- Develop and deliver wildfire prevention education, public awareness campaigns, community outreach programs, and presentations to schools, organizations, and the public.
- Assist with wildfire investigations, determine contributing factors when appropriate, document findings, and recommend prevention measures to reduce future fire occurrences.
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend hazardous fuels reduction and wildfire mitigation projects to improve community and landscape resilience to wildfire.
- Utilize GIS, GPS, mapping technologies, and other technical tools to document wildfire risks, support planning activities, and maintain prevention program data.
- Prepare and maintain reports, prevention plans, technical documentation, program records, budgets, and other administrative materials required to support program operations and compliance requirements.
- Participate in wildland fire suppression, prescribed fire activities, incident management operations, emergency response assignments, training exercises, and readiness activities as qualified and assigned.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements
- Qualification as FFT2 or ability to obtain within a designed timeframe.
- Completion of L-280 Followership to Leadership of equivalent wildland fire leadership training.
- Experience supporting wildland fire suppression, fire prevention, forestry, natural resources, or land management operations.
- Ability to pass the Moderate (Light) Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) and meet physical fitness requirements.
- Experience preparing reports, plans, or technical documentation related to natural resources, forestry, fire management, or similar programs.
- Ability to conduct presentations, training sessions, or outreach activities with internal and external stakeholders.
