Description

Job Summary: Serves as the Outpatient Coder/ Data Analyst Specialist. Responsible for maintaining Quality Assurance by completing Quality Assurance Audits and reports findings to supervisor and/or HIM Management in a timely manner or within given deadline.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Performs weekly Quality Assurance Audits. Enters completed Q.A. data into a report and distribute to coders and management staff. Refers coders for counseling regarding any error trends that are noticed and assigns error corrections to each coder.

  2. Distribute daily workload evenly between the coders. Ensure that coding staff are completing monthly audits. Sort Pathology reports, delivering inpatient pathology reports to the Inpatient coder. Run Pharmacy Fix bi-weekly. Enter venipunctures, EKGs, Radiology, and Home Health as needed. Keep error reports to a minimum.

  3. Maintain accurate and up-to-date coding, charge tickets and billing. Communicate requests for changes to Charge Master Charge tickets, provider charge tickets and EHR templates from staff to consultants as needed.

  4. Utilize the monthly Respiratory Sleep Lab Spreadsheet to look up and review visits to assure the correct codes have been entered. If incorrect codes used, return to coder for correction. Utilize the monthly Blood Transfusion Compatibility Spreadsheet to review visits and assure there is a compatibility transcode(s) for each bag of blood ordered. If not correct, then enter the correct information.

  5. Monitor emails between the business office and coders and give assistance where needed.

  6. Enter all the first-aid visits for TuskaHomma visitors that do have a chart somewhere in CNHSA.

  7. Check the deficiencies assigned by coders daily to determine legitimacy or if it can be corrected without sending back to the provider. Maintain a log of deficiency send backs to enter into the monthly report. Complete and send out Provider Deficiency Letter bi-monthly to providers and support staff. Review Delinquent/Incomplete Records to determine if a note has been dictated but is not yet typed or if the provider has completed their portion of the visit and notify coders when visits are ready to be coded. Complete a monthly report showing the outstanding provider deficiencies.

  8. Assist supervisor with completion of weekly production report.

  9. Assist supervisor with updating and maintaining coding step-by-steps.

  10. Coordinate, schedule, and assist in training for healthcare providers.

  11. Codes for a minimum of 2 hours per day, meeting standard, or as needed.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM

  • High School diploma or GED: or a combination of equivalent education or experience.

  • At least one year experience in HIM outpatient coding with working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and have completed Medical Terminology, and ICD-10-CM Medical Coding courses.

  • Demonstrates excellent organization skills, multi-tasking, and efficiency skills; organized, motivated and detail oriented.

  • Efficient time-management- able to work independently.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, self-starter.

  • Ability to read information in a patient’s health record

TARGET

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care related field

  • At least 2 years’ experience in HIM outpatient Coding with working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and have completed Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Coding classes.

  • Must possess at least one of the following: CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, COC, CIC or RHIA/RHIT

  • Demonstrates excellent organization skills, multi-tasking, and efficiency skills; organized, motivated and detail oriented.

  • Efficient time-management- able to work independently.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, self-starter.
