Therapist- AAT & Outpatient


  • This position holds clinical hours (Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm) and will work varying days with Animal Assisted Therapy and outpatient clinical counseling sessions. The therapy animal must be your own with shown people and obedience skills, able to pass personality requirements set forth by the AKC

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Provide counseling to promote optimum mental and emotional health.

  • This position is subject to the Supreme Court mandate regarding Covid-19 vaccines. The Choctaw Nation also offers a religious or medical exemption for those unable to receive the vaccine.

    • This position reports to Behavioral Health manager at Windhorse in McAlester

Primary Tasks:

  • Provide assessment and stabilization for individuals who may experience mental health crises.

  • Counsel individuals to process crisis issues associated with; addictions and substance abuse, family, marital problems, depression, anxiety, trauma,, self-esteem, aging and any other emotional stressors.

  • Provide Behavioral Health services, self-care plan development, coping skills, motivational interviewing, and related integrated Behavioral Health services.

  • Refer patients for inpatient treatment services, arrange for transportation, and provide any necessary documentation to facilities.

  • Prepare and maintain all treatment records, of patient records, and uphold patient safety standards.

  • Be the liaison between medical staff, patients, relatives, and outside agencies.

  • Interpret and help resolve problems that relate to medical condition or hospitalization.

  • Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments, refer for continuing services, or develop treatment plans.

Required Education and experience:


  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related human services from a nationally accredited college or university

  • Under guidance for Licensed Mental Health Professional (LPC, LCSW, LADC-MH, LMFT)
