Scheduling Specialist (Referred Care)

Description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Responsible for scheduling and pre-registering patients for exams and procedures in a timely manner ensuring all alternate resources have been assessed and the patient meets eligibility guidelines.

Primary Tasks:

  • Procure health services from private providers through written contracts and agreements within established policies and procedures.

  • Negotiate and award purchases of health services within delegated monetary authority parameters.

  • Provide initial and follow-up assistance for hospital admission in outside hospitals through contract providers.

  • Notify Case Manager of potential long term admissions. Follow-up includes those cases involving alternate third-party resources and assists patients in filing claims for medical services.

  • Provide direct assistance to patients concerning denials of payment for health care services on other matters related to CRC.

  • Schedule appointments for patient and make travel arrangements if necessary.

  • Schedule and obtain prior authorization for patient appointments at outside providers per order of referring physician ensuring appropriate specialty is utilized.

  • Upon receipt of CRC referrals and requests, perform preliminary review of other available alternate resources to the patient including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance carriers. Refers the more complex requests and referrals to the supervisor.

  • Assist Medical staff in preparing referrals for submission to CRC Review Committee. Process CRC requests according to determinations made by committee.

  • Confirm patient eligibility regarding Indian Descent and residency requirements per Choctaw Referred Care guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned within scope and competency of the associate.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Excellent telephone skills

  • Experience using medical terminology

  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission and CNHSA policies and procedures

TARGET

  • Associate’s Degree in business, health, or related field

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience using medical terminology

  • Advanced understanding of HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission and CNHSA policies and procedures

  • Three years’ directly related experience
