Phlebotomist Certified IHS Idabel Laboratory Temp
Job Summary: Collects and processes patient specimens for lab testing. Obtains and communicates appropriate information concerning patient specimens and reports. Must be able to work first, second and third shift when needed.
Performs venipuncture or capillary puncture on patients of all ages. Follows sterile procedure appropriate technique and approved collection equipment to obtain required specimens for testing.
Maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and process specimens from the following age groups: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescence, Adult and Geriatric.
Obtains positive identification by name and date of birth from each patient, or from hospital armband or from nursing staff.
Labels specimens correctly and delivers to proper testing area.
Politely answers telephone and uses phone system appropriately.
Possesses workable knowledge and skill in use of the lab information system.
Processes all specimens requiring preparation for referral to reference labs.
Maintains lab files in orderly and proper condition.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient and associate information
Performs other duties as assigned within scope and competency of the associate.
Physical Requirements: Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Performs venipunctures on adults and children.
On the Job Training
Associate degree in Science
At least six months experience in hospital lab
Performs venipuncture on newborn, neonates, children, adults as needed.
