Voter Registration Intern
Assist eligible members with the application process to obtain voter registration, maintaining contact with them for the purpose of exchanging information and obtaining documentation needed. Perform administrative functions as requested by supervisor to ensure department operations continue without interruption within Membership Services.
Research and issue new Voter Registrations to eligible members who apply, following established regulations, supported by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Election Ordinance.
Open and sort incoming mail; handle basic correspondence and prepare outgoing mail as assigned.
Process all mail weekly, posting returned mail on the computer.
Update voter registration information with address changes, name changes, etc.
Maintain electronic files of all applications, voter signatures, correspondence and other information and/or records pertinent to voter files.
Maintain daily log of phone calls, visitors, faxes, emails, applications sent, etc. for quarterly and yearly reports.
Travel to key locations in order to register eligible members to vote.
Shred confidential documents for recycling.
Provide assistance and information about available programs and services to tribal members and/or visitors in accordance to the Guest Service standards set forth by Choctaw Nation.
Other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Active student with major in Native American Studies, Political Science, Social Science, Management, Communications, or related undergraduate degree program with career aspirations in Voter Registration or Member Services.
Choctaw CDIB or Choctaw member status.
In process of completing first semester of Sophomore-level or up to second semester Senior-level standing in degree requirements.
Must be currently attending an accredited college, university, or postsecondary educational institution.
Must be available to work 40 hour per week eight consecutive weeks.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5; 3.0 GPA or greater preferred.
Professional appearance and telephone manner.
Typing, computer, telephone, and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written on a technical level.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to lift 20lb or more.
