Communication Manager - Legal and Judicial

Description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Create, manage and assist with the overall Choctaw Nation communication strategy and delivery as part of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Marketing & Communication Department, with an emphasis on supporting the Legal and Compliance Division and Judicial Branch. Facilitate the delivery of efficient and effective media relations and communication to target audiences and the general public that enhance the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s brand and reputation.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Develops and implements communication strategies and tactics to identify and communicate with target audiences and the general public.

  2. Partners with internal CNO divisions, departments, and leaders to plan, implement and evaluate communications.

  3. Serves as an extension and liaison of the communications department with assigned clients. Ensures compliance with overall communications department guidelines and direction.

  4. Engage in media relations activities, managing media inquiries at the local, state, and national level.

  5. Develop content, edit and oversee distribution of communication materials

  6. Adheres to departmental and organizational brand standards, guidelines for style and content.

  7. Analyze metrics to evaluate effectiveness of communication plan delivery.

  8. Assists with development and implementation of training to assigned clients around improved communications techniques.

  9. Collaborate with assigned clients and Marketing & Communications leadership to clarify outcomes for projects and activities to ensure clear and effective communication with target audience.

  10. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM

  • Bachelors degree in PR, Journalism, Communication or related field.

  • 7 years of overall communication experience;

  • Developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate at a senior level

  • Familiar with project management and implementation processes

  • Communications software skills -- proficient

  • 5 years experience in legal, judicial or public safety fields strongly preferred/recommended

  • Knowledge and experience with Indian Country issues and law

TARGET

  • Graduate degree in PR, Journalism, Communications or related field.

  • 10 years working in Communications; PR or internal communications background preferred

  • Advanced interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate at a senior level

  • Advanced knowledge of project management practices

  • Certification with PRSA or IABC preferred

  • Communications software skills - advanced

  • PIO training or certification
