Art Director


Job Purpose or Objective(s): The art director manages a creative initiative from start to finish, guiding a cross-functional creative team in the conception, design, and execution of marketing materials.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Own responsibility for the overall visual aspects of an advertising or media campaign and coordinates the work of other design staff.

  2. Translate marketing and brand strategies into innovative and effective campaigns and ensure all design and messaging aligns with the brand.

  3. Generate clear ideas and concepts in tandem with the Director of Creative Services and Copywriter that guide the creative team from project start to finish.

  4. Understand marketing initiatives, strategic positioning and target audience to ensure that the clients’ desired message and image is properly conveyed to the intended audience.

  5. Manage and delegate responsibilities to other designers and provide direction to maintain graphic consistency across all deliverables

  6. Collaborate with the Director of Creative Services to develop the brand so that it reflects the organization’s core values and ideals and aligns to the CNO’s vision and mission.

  7. Review and approve the designs, artwork, photography, and graphics developed by staff members.

  8. Assist the Traffic Managers in assigning job duties and developing the process and timeline for each project.

  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Visual Arts, or related degree

  • Exceptional computer skills including Macintosh operations platform including knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign

  • Must have excellent communication skills and be detail-oriented

  • Experience in executing advertising concepts

  • Demonstrable ability to lead and develop a talented team, and to work effectively and collaboratively

  • Five years in a Graphic Design/Creative environment


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts

  • Excellent computer skills in relevant art and design software packages

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud apps. Photoshop and Illustrator. Skills in After Effects, Adobe Premiere and InDesign

  • Ability to direct animation projects and be hands-on if necessary

  • Able to plan and lead photo shoots

  • Thorough understanding of photography, typography, and printing technique

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and provide marketable solutions in conceiving, developing, and producing campaigns

  • Eight plus years in Graphic Design/Creative environment

  • Two years prior supervisory experience
