Ranch Manager - Daisy Ranch

Description

Job Summary: The Ranch Manager will coordinate and manage ranch resources for the benefit of meeting the Choctaw Nation’s mission.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Manage a revenue-producing livestock enterprise, enhancing native wildlife habitats and improving the overall cattle herd value.

  2. Manage and support cattle and ranch operations including supervision of ranch personnel, maintenance of property and equipment and involvement in cattle marketing.

  3. Collaborate with staff in order to conduct research and increase education and outreach efforts.

  4. Implement a computer-based system for tracking cattle sales, production, and movement.

  5. Maintain daily and weekly reporting of cattle sales, movement, and inventory and report data to accounting personnel.

  6. Supervise day-to-day operations of the ranch including working with cattle, basic mechanics of ranch and farm equipment, fencing, road maintenance, windmills, and welding, etc.

  7. Train and maintain horses used for cattle work.

  8. Develop and implement a herd preventative health program, including weaned calf management.

  9. Other duties assigned by the Director of Ranch Operations.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with working cattle, including back grounding of yearlings, doctoring and vaccinating of cattle

  • Experience with wildlife management, grazing systems and vegetation management through mechanical means and herbicides

  • Ability to communicate with ranch staff, university researchers and technicians

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to put forth extra effort in performing duties

  • Combination of over two years ranch experience, business sense, work ethic and education

TARGET

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of a university-based ranch management program

  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with working cattle, including back grounding of yearlings, doctoring and vaccinating of cattle

  • Experience with wildlife management, grazing systems and vegetation management through mechanical means and herbicides

  • Ability to with ranch staff, university researchers and technicians

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to put forth extra effort in performing duties

  • Combination of three or more years ranch experience, business sense, work ethic and education
